Web and Interactive Design at ACC

Web and Interactive Design at ACC

Austin Community College

Role: Assistant Professor, Web and Interactive Design
Skills: Teaching/Instruction/Demonstration, Curriculum Development, Student Advising
The Challenge: Re-enter the education space at ACC after five years, begin revising curriculum immediately while starting classes simultaneously, incorporating my knowledge and experience into the curriculum and classroom.
Results: I successfully picked up where I left off from my Adjunct Faculty days at ACC and began teaching existing courses while revising and enhancing them to be more relevant, matching industry focus and practices.

During the first few years working at ACC in the Visual Communication department, myself and my co-worker were responsible for teaching the Web and Interactive Design degree while continually updating and improving the curriculum for this ever-changing field. We also recruited and hired Adjunct Professors from the design industry to supplement our teaching ranks.

The primary focus of this degree was UI design, visual design, design process, and front-end web development.

I focused on teaching the students to understand the process of building an interface within the context of design, usability, current technologies, and design tools.

I guided students through the exploration and application of design techniques in the creation and optimization of graphics for use in interactive design projects.

I instructed students in principles of design and information architecture and taught students how to successfully design, code and launch a functional website.
